A Denver Therapist Accepting UnitedHealthcare Insurance
I am an in-network provider with UnitedHealthcare. This means you can use your insurance benefits for therapy sessions with me instead of paying the full rate out of pocket. Here’s what to know before we get started.
UnitedHealthcare Covers Mental Health Services Through Optum. Here Are a few Things to Keep in Mind
UnitedHealthcare manages mental health benefits through Optum, its behavioral health partner, so a little context upfront makes the process smoother.
✔Call the number on the back of your card, since mental health questions often route through Optum.
✔ Ask how many therapy visits your plan covers within a calendar year.
✔ Confirm whether your plan is a PPO, HMO, or Choice Plus, since that affects referral requirements.
✔ Confirm your copay for outpatient mental health services.
Other Ways to Make This Work
If your specific UnitedHealthcare plan doesn’t fully cover our work together, or you’d rather not go through insurance at all, you still have options.
Even well-covered UnitedHealthcare plans can leave a gap, whether that’s a plan tier I am not contracted with, a deductible that hasn’t been met, or a session limit you’d rather not be boxed into. You can still choose:
- A superbill you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement
- A sliding-scale rate if cost is a barrier
- A free 15-minute call with me to sort out what fits your situation
Note: I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse any or all of your requested amount from the super bill.
Check Your UnitedHealthcare Benefits Anytime
Log into your UnitedHealthcare member portal, or Optum’s provider directory if that’s where your plan routes behavioral health, to review your coverage, copay, and remaining deductible before we meet.
Here’s What You Can Expect When You Use UnitedHealthcare
I have a dedicated billing partner who works directly with UnitedHealthcare and Optum to keep the process seamless from start to finish.
Some important points you must know:
UnitedHealthcare manages mental health benefits through Optum, so don’t be thrown off if that name comes up when you’re verifying coverage.
Copays for outpatient therapy in Colorado typically vary, depending on your specific plan.
Your responsibility is limited to your plan’s copay, coinsurance, or remaining deductible.
If I’m not an approved provider in your specific UnitedHealthcare plan, I can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement.
Note: I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse any or all of your requested amount from the super bill.

What You Can Expect
When working with me, availing your UnitedHealthcare insurance shouldn’t be the hardest part of therapy.
You Know Your UnitedHealthcare Costs Upfront
No guessing what a session costs once your specific copay or deductible is applied.
Your UnitedHealthcare Claims Get Filed For You
I submit your insurance claim directly, so you’re not the one untangling Optum’s systems on your own.
You’re Working With an In-Network UnitedHealthcare Provider
UnitedHealthcare has independently confirmed my license and standing before agreeing to cover our sessions.

Meet Your Therapist
Hi, I am Kim. I became in-network with UnitedHealthcare because so many of my Denver clients carry it through their employer, and I wanted their coverage to be usable.
If you’re not sure whether your specific UnitedHealthcare plan qualifies, that’s an easy thing to sort out on our free consultation call, before you commit to anything.
Questions People Usually Ask
Clear answers to common questions about UnitedHealthcare insurance for therapy in Denver.
Why does my paperwork say Optum instead of UnitedHealthcare?
UnitedHealthcare uses Optum as its behavioral health administrator, so mental health claims and provider directories often run through Optum’s systems. It’s still your UnitedHealthcare coverage.
Do I need a referral to see you?
PPO and Choice Plus members typically don’t need one. HMO plans are more likely to require a referral, so it’s worth checking your specific plan.
What if I haven’t met my deductible yet?
You’ll pay the full session rate until your deductible is met, then your copay or coinsurance applies. I’ll help you understand where you stand before we start.
Does UnitedHealthcare cover telehealth sessions?
Most UnitedHealthcare plans cover telehealth therapy the same way they cover in-person sessions, though it’s worth confirming with UnitedHealthcare directly.
What if UnitedHealthcare denies a claim?
I’ll help you understand why and what your options are, including appealing the decision or using a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement instead.
Note: I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse any or all of your requested amount from the super bill.
